What Do You Need to believe About Jesus Christ to Be Saved?
BELIEVE!
Have you heard anyone say, "You need to believe in Jesus Christ to be saved?" The normal response to such a question is "What do I need to believe about Him?" History books tell us that Jesus Christ lived. Some give details of His life. But what does one need to believe about Him to be saved? The Bible gives many details of His life and work. But what does one need to believe about Him to be saved? The belief or faith that brings salvation is far more than faith that He existed in human history as an important religious leader. The Bible clearly tells us what we need to believe about Jesus Christ to be saved. Faith is essential.
God's Word clearly says that a person needs to believe in Jesus Christ to be saved. It's a simple fact. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that the one who is believing in Him will not perish but will have eternal life (John 3:16)." Even clearer is the statement "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved ... (Acts 16:31)." God gives the person faith to believe in Jesus Christ. "For by grace are you saved through faith and that not of yourselves, it is a gift of God not of works lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8, 9)." Each of these statements tell us that we need to believe (or have faith) in Jesus Christ in order to be saved but not one of them tells what we need to believe.
The Bible reveals many truths about Jesus Christ. He did so much while He was here on earth that "the land could not contain the books that could be written" about what He did (John 21:25). He is the eternal God who came to earth and took on Himself a human nature. But most important is what you need to believe about Him in order to be saved. God calls this the Gospel or the good news by which you are saved.
The Gospel describes what Christ did as the Substitute for the sins of mankind when He died on the cross. He took your place as a Substitute taking on Himself the penalty for your sins, He paid the price you deserved to pay. He shed his blood on Calvary's cross for every act of sin you have ever committed and every act of sin that every other human being has done. Yet He did something that you could not do -- He rose from the dead and is now seated with God the Father in heaven. His resurrection shows that He is the Perfect God-Man.
THAT CHRIST DIED FOR
